Guerre et Paix
War and Peace is a novel by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, serialized between 1865 and 1869 in The Russian Messenger. The question addressed by this book is the image of Russia portrayed at the time of Napoleon I. I published this new edition to bring him a new answer. I chose to create a slightly disturbed reading experience, recalling the disruptive elements encountered during this reading. The chapters are from 26 to 28 based on the pages of an old edition, numbered from 158 to 183. These numbers will be put forward because they echo the various decrees of organization and numbering ordered by Napoleon 1st: as for example, the numbering of streets and buildings used to better organize the collection of the tax which financed the innumerable wars that the Emperor led, especially in Russia. These take more or less space in the page symbolizing the conquest of the Emperor. Didot typography also makes sense here because it is the one used under his regime. Good reading.
